Look What I Can Do! 2.0 - A Spoonflower Shop!

Illustration of umbrella drinks, ice cream cone, flip flops all under the sun.

It would seem that business is slow going this summer. And it is. But not really! I’ve been so busy creating a portfolio in Adobe InDesign incentivized and encouraged by Genna Blackburn, who is queen of the InDesign portfolio. She even has an online course to show you how create your own portfolio!  I hope to use this new portfolio to start pitching my artwork soon to manufacturers for licensing opportunities. More on that next time. But first, this! (So excited!)

Spoonflower!! I have opened a shop on Spoonflower!!! I cannot even contain my excitement!!  Spoonflower is an online print-on-demand company that sells fabric, wallpaper and some home decor. It is a shop where artists and designers can upload their artwork and either order custom fabrics and wallpapers for real-live clients or make the artwork/pattern designs available to sell on fabric/wallpaper to online clients (internationally!). Products are printed, produced and fulfilled only once an order is placed (“print-on-demand”). This allows artist to sell product without keeping inventory. I’ve said it before, but print-on-demand is a win-win for the beginner entrepreneurs!

I’ve been uploading small collections of artwork to my Spoonflower shop. Here is a sampling (see below). These are mock-ups generated by Spoonflower that contain my artwork.

My artwork is very playful and lighthearted, and I picture it in nurseries, play rooms, maybe outdoor patios, or just a fun space in your home! But also, I envision the fabric being used for aprons, children’s clothing, bed sheets (for kids), maybe fun sundresses, bathing suits, or funky scarves!

Now, uploading my artwork and making it available for sale on fabric and wallpaper is exciting indeed! However, it’s really nothing if it doesn’t sell. If you are a sewist or a home decorator or know someone who is, please share my Spoonflower site with them. It would be supporting my little art business and I’d be forever grateful. If you do create with fabric or wallpaper with my artwork on it, please feel free to share with me via email (xoch@xochimo.com) or tag me on Instagram (@xochimo). I would love to see what you create!

If you visit my Spoonflower shop, let me know what you think about the artwork! I can always use some constructive feedback.

Toodles for now!
