What inspires you?

Folks, I broke my wrist! One month ago. It was 2 a.m. and the smoke detector decided to chirp incessantly announcing its low battery. In an effort to avoid waking my girls, I decided to change the battery. In a moment of ridiculously bad judgement, I put a stool up on a chair, and climbed up. I’ll let you figure out the rest. A week after the trip to the emergency room, I had surgery. They placed a metal plate and screws to hold my bone in place while it heals, making me officially bionic, like the 6-million dollar man and the bionic woman! Who remembers them? (Although, I always loved Wonder Woman the most!)

Anyhoo, a broken bone is just one of the reasons why I’ve been absent from my blog and my art. Other reasons: COVID, summer activities with my kiddos, followed by getting ready to physically go back to school, and finally the stress of the Texas ban on mask mandates in schools. The latter being an increasing source of desperate anxiety.

But here I am now, typing one-handed, trying to get back to a calmer space. I haven’t tried drawing or doodling since the bone-break, because, even though I broke my left wrist and I am right-handed, it’s still difficult to write and draw. It’s rather hard to explain, but the paper moves, and normally I would hold it down with my left hand. And that’s not an option! Lame excuse, I know!

Let’s talk about fall! As in autumn. This is my mostest favorite time of the year. Yesterday, it was a muggy 103 degrees. And, as if by magic, we woke up to a crisp 65 degrees today. It’s like it knew it was the first day of autumn., and it needed to behave as such. I love all things fall: foliage, acorns, pumpkin patches, Halloween, Thanksgiving, sweater weather! All of it! This can only inspire me to get back to doodling! Side note: Today, I doodled this little fall wreath. Hooraaaay!! Baby steps!

Your turn! What inspire you?
